How it works

Five sections. Here is how to use each.

The checks and calculators run in your browser on what you type. Nothing you type is saved or sent, and there is nothing to sign up for.

The five sections

Tools
Software you download and run on your own computer. One is ready now; the rest are marked Coming.
Quick checks
Short checks you run on your own setup. Most are five questions you score 0, 1 or 2.
Calculators
Type in your own numbers and see the answer, with the math behind it.
Open-source picks
Software made by other projects. We list what each one does. Each opens that project's own site.
Workflows
Public guides from the groups that set the standards. Each one opens the publisher's site.

Fill in a quick check

  1. Open Quick checks, pick a topic, then tap a check below the topics.
  2. For each question, tap No (0), Partly (1) or Yes (2). The page explains what each score means above the questions.
  3. Your score adds up at the bottom of the screen, out of 10. Under any question you score 0 or 1, the page shows how to raise it.
  4. Tap Start again to clear every answer. Reloading the page clears them too.

Use a calculator

  1. Open Calculators and tap the question you want answered.
  2. Type your own figures into the boxes. The grey numbers are examples, not anyone's real data.
  3. The answer appears as you type, with each step of the math, what it assumes, and what it does not prove.

Download a PDF

  1. Each quick check has a Download PDF button near the end of the page. It saves a printable copy with the same questions.
  2. The PDF does not hold your taps. To keep what you tapped, use your browser's Print and choose Save as PDF.
  3. Under each button is a SHA-256 fingerprint, so you can confirm the file is the one we published (see the FAQ).

Search

  1. On the Hub, the toolkit's first page, tap the search bar under the title. On every other toolkit page, tap the magnifier button at the top, beside the logo. On a keyboard, press the / key.
  2. Type a plain word, such as restore, backup or VMware. Results show as you type; tap one to open it.
  3. Coming tools show in the results, dimmed, and do not open yet.
